To be stuck in a daydream means we find ourselves occupied by a series of pleasant thoughts that distract us from the present; there is a separation between where we are and where we wish we were. We dream of transcendence between our current social conditions and those we consider to be ideal. This psychological device of hope is an example of the Utopian Impulse in action. My conceptual ideas aim to explore the cultural impact of daydreaming and how it can be used as a tool; not to escape the difficult present, but rather as a method of "Anticipatory Illumination", which creative-minded and neurodivergent people-alike express through world-building, storytelling and narrative changing which can be brought into existence through art, fiction, music, and play to create change.

Bodies of literature such as Ernst Blochs "Principle of Hope" and Ursula K.Le Guins "Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction" have inspired much of my conceptual ideas. Through reading and understanding these theories, I have explored ways in which artists have driven humanity forward, regardless of medium. The culture we produce acts as an insight into what could be, pointing people to where we must go for there to social progress. I been able to put my own mind at ease knowing that my own daydreams ;which I find myself increasingly seeking refuge in; can manifest as anticipatory art which I hope someday can act as a beacon to be created collaboratively, illuminating the hopes and utopian impulse of many.

As a multi-disciplinary artist, my practice flourishes from conceptual ideas and manifests in which ever form it seems to fit. Recently, as a direct result of the current state of affairs, my practice has utilised what can be produced within my own little studio at home, hunkered down, safe and looking inward. Going back to drawing and painting, complex ideas and aspirations for future projects have become works in their own right, as well as working with multiples that compliment each other. Virtual Reality has also interested me at this time, perhaps as a result of the need for immersion and access to places and spaces out of reach. My work is heavily inspired by illustrations from children's books and cartoons. From an early age we are exposed to expressions of the Utopian Impulse which children then express through unlimited daydreaming, playtime, drawing and much more. The colourful aesthetic of play and the soft, translucent and delicate nature of what I consider to represent transcendence and daydreams occurs instinctively in my work.
