My niche is beginning to lie within exploring art as therapy and as a way of making sense of past trauma, specifically childhood. We as humans, can be affected for life from even our earliest memories, conditioned and shaped as people from events we were barely conscious for, hence why I like to explore where our comfort is derived from and how we can use it as a coping mechanism for ourselves, and the surrogacy around comfort objects that we use to fill a hole left in our lives.
I explore the relationship between the inanimate and the living, taking a look at power and control, exploring whose really in charge in the dominant/submissive companionship between a living breathing person surrendering themselves to an object.
I tackle the theme using a variety of soft sculpture, film and sound with the aim of crossing the line between artist and audience, attempting to make them feel the comfort and tension I aim to achieve in my art, and create an all-encompassing feeling for people to experience and relate to, as we all were kids once.
